Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs This supplemental unit provides Internet resources for second grade students to learn interesting facts about the weather. They will learn and write about the formation of clouds.
Under the Deep Blue Sea This lesson gives students the opportunity to explore oceans and ocean life. Students will listen to stories and poems with oceanic settings and write about the forms of sea life.
What is History? This lesson plan addresses the ways people learn about events from the past and discuss and write about how historical accounts are influenced by the perspective of the person giving the account.
Green Eggs and Purple Bacon In this lesson students Read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. The class cooks and eats green eggs and ham. Students imagine a dish and write a recipe using a logical sequence. Students type, illustrate, and compile recipes into a class cookbook.

Kids Are Authors: Kids Are Authors is an annual competition open to Grades K–8 and is designed to encourage students to use their reading, writing, and artistic skills to create their own books.
Writing Prompts: These sites have a variety of writing prompts to help students develop stories. Includes some handouts and PowerPoint presentations.
Writing Assessment Tools: These sites include rubrics, scoring guides, and checklists for assessing student writing. Ideas for peer editing and student self-evaluation are included. Several of these assessment tools can be used as they are while others can be constructed online.
